Hey, I'm Amara

Food lover. Community advocate. Ethical shopping obsessive.

Why I Started This

I kept running into the same problem: I wanted to spend my money at businesses that actually reflect my values — but finding them was a full-time job. Who owns this place? Where does the money go? Is there a better alternative?

So I started keeping a list. First for myself, then for friends, then for the group chat. Eventually it became this — a real directory for people who care about where their dollars end up.

The Ethical Local is for anyone who believes that what you buy is a vote for the kind of world you want. Whether that means supporting minority-owned businesses, choosing ethical alternatives to big brands, or simply discovering incredible local spots that deserve your attention — you're in the right place.

What You'll Find Here

Every review is a place I've personally tried, or that someone I trust has vouched for. I cover everything — restaurants and cafes, grocery stores, fashion and beauty, professional services, and more. I highlight what makes each business worth your dollar: who owns it, what they stand for, and why they're special.

You'll also find the "Ethical Swaps" section — practical alternatives to brands and chains that many conscious consumers have chosen to move away from. No lectures, just options.

How I Review

I keep it real. Every review is based on actual experience. I rate on a 5-star scale, and I always note what makes a place special — the food, the service, the vibe, the story behind it. I'm not getting paid by anyone to write nice things. If a place is great, I'll say so. If it needs work, I'll mention that too, because I want these businesses to thrive.

Suggest a Business

Know an amazing ethical business or local gem I should check out? I'd love to hear about it. Send me the details — a name, a photo, a Google Maps link — and I'll take it from there.
